The difference in this game was that Vancouver Canucks won the game because of good goaltending, strong physical play and shared scoring from different lines. A big difference for Calgary during this game it was the Jarome Iginla was held of the scoring board and only registered 3 shots by the end of the game. During the game Alexander Burrows scored a goal only to be disallowed by getting a goalie interference penalty. After the game the Vancouver Canucks players and staff argued it should have been a goal and that Mikka Kiprusoff took a dive on purpose. Vancouver Canucks knew coming into this game that in many ways it would have the feel of a playoff game since they were playing Calgary Flames a fellow Northwest Division team but they had nothing to loose and everything to gain. Calgary Flames though had everything to loose since they were the favorites going into the game. The Vancouver Canucks played the game as underdogs and sent a message to the stronger teams in Western Conference that they should not be taken lightly. First goal was scored by Calgary Flames Matthew Lombardi in the second period at 1:09 with the assists going to Jeff Friesen and Andrew Ference. Second goal of the game was scored by Vancouver Canucks Mattias Ohlund in the second period at 2:53 with the assists going to Markus Naslund and Ryan Kesler. The third of the game was scored by Vancouver Canucks Henrik Sedin in the second period at 17:31 with the assist going to Daniel Sedin. The fourth and last goal of the game was scored by Vancouver Canucks Brendan Morrison in the third period at 8:40 with the assists going to Matt Cooke and Willie Mitchell. After the game during the post game interviews Vancouver Canucks Head Coach said “that Calgary Flames had the early advantage but Roberto Luongo kept the team into the game especially during the 2nd period. He also liked the focus, the discipline and the tight checking style of game that his players played”.
