 Leafs Lose ... Again

Justin Dahan (HV)

It seems like a long time since the Toronto Maple Leafs have found themselves on the winning side of a game. They’ve come close, on Saturday they had a 2-0 and 3-1 lead only to lose in a shootout to Montreal . Common criticism of the Leafs has been consistency, but Tuesday the Leafs proved to be consistent. They have consistently given up a 2 goal lead. This time it was the Atlanta Thrashers to come from behind and win. They Leafs were up 2-0 going into the third where they allowed 5 goals to lose 5-2. The Thrashers were led by Glen Metropolit, a Toronto native. Metropolit had one goal and two assists. Pretty good considering that the last time Atlanta visited Toronto Metropolit was a healthy scratch. To some playing in your hometown is stressful, it adds pressure but Metropolit proved that’s not a problem for him, he enjoys it and plays well. “It’s a special night, my whole family is here, and it’s great to win” said Metropolit about playing in Toronto, the Toronto native hasn’t played in Toronto in awhile, for the past three years he’s been playing in Europe. Vyacheslav Kozlov had two goals to help the Thrashers continue their winning ways. After the game he said, “We’re rolling but we need to keep on rolling.” Obviously this Atlanta team is hungry to win, and to make the playoffs. Making the playoffs is something that last year Don Waddell guaranteed his team would do, they failed but are on pace to succeed this year. Marian Hossa added a breakaway goal that squeaked through the five hole of struggling Leafs goalie Andrew Raycroft. This was Hossa’s 21st goal of the year. He leads the team in goals, a team which includes the likes of Ilya Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk added an empty netter for his 18th goal of the season. Atlanta net minder Johan Hedberg got the win for the Thrashers stopping 17 of the 19 shots.
