Bruins take rematch Justin Dahan (HV) A heated affair is always expected against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins; after all they’re both Original 6 teams. Saturday, November 25th, they had a heated match which featured a scrap between Darcy Tucker and Paul Mara.
On Tuesday, November 28th, it was expected we would see the rematch between Tucker and Mara and while that didn’t happen the game did not disappoint. Just ask Bruins goalie Tim Thomas who spoke of the game as having a certain playoff atmosphere. “Between the second and third it felt like a playoff game. I had the nerves going, I mean you don’t usually feel like that for a regular season game” said Thomas about the atmosphere before the game.
The Bruins have just started coming on strong; they are trying to get into a playoff position. According to Tim Thomas the coach had challenged them before the game. “This morning the coach said that this was the closest thing we have to a playoff game so far, to get to the playoffs we have to get past teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, and a couple of us (Tim Included) weren’t feeling to good this morning and the coach challenged us, said it was like the playoffs. No Excuses” If this was Tim Thomas on a bad day? The Maple Leafs couldn’t tell. The Leafs threw all they had at Thomas, 46 shots! Thomas responded by stopping 45 of them, and the one he didn’t went off Nik Antropov’s skate and was a bit of a fluky goal.
It was more than Boston ’s goalie that won them the game. It was a solid overall outing by the Bruins. Bruins Captain Chara logged over thirty minutes in the game, playing solid defense. He was on the ice killing an entire 1.45 minute 5-3. He looked dog tired at the end but allowed Tim Thomas to see all the shots coming at the net. Boston also had their offense going; Shean Donavon scored a beautiful goal. He picked the top corner with an accurate wrist shot. Murray fired a slap shot past former Bruins goaltender Andrew Raycroft, which ended up being the winning goal. Marco Strum also had a goal and Brad Boyes rounded out the scoring when the ex Maple Leaf scored in an empty net.
