Saulietis is trying to improve for Kelowna Michail Boncea (HV) The game between Vancouver Giants vs. Kelowna Rockets started off with a fight about 5 seconds into the game between Vancouver Giants Garet Hunt and Kelowna Rockets Cody Almond. After that fight Vancouver Giants just dominated for the rest of the game with the final shot count at the end of the game saying it all, Vancouver Giants 53 shots and Kelowna Rockets 13. The difference during the entire game was that Kelowna Rockets took tons of undisciplinary penalties. First goal was scored by Vancouver Giants Cody Franson in first period at 9:59 the assists went to Jonathon Blum and Jason Reese. Second goal of the game was scored by Vancouver Giants Brett Festerling in second period at 16:33 the assists went to Jonathon Blum and Milan Lucic. Third goal of the game was scored by Vancouver Giants Garet Hunt the assist went to Kenton Dulle. Fourth goal of the game was scored by Kelowna Rockets Lucas Bloodoff no assists. Fifth and final goal of the game was scored by Vancouver Giants J.D. Watt the assist went to Brett Festerling. After the game during the post game interviews Vancouver Giants Head Coach Don Hay said that Vancouver Giants work ethic was really important and forced Kelowna to take many penalties in the process wearing them down and not giving them many chances to score. Kelowna Rockets Head Coach Jeff Truitt said that no doubt in his mind that the penalties that Kelowna took was the turning point, and went on to say that you don’t build any momentum by playing a lot of defense and taking silly penalties but was very happy with his goaltending since Kristofer Westblom kept them in the game. When asked what he thinks of Kaspars Saulietis now that he plays for the team Jeff Truitt said that he is a very fast and fancy player but needs to work on his defense and work harder on the boards. Kaspars Saulietis when asked in an exclusive interview for Hokeja
Vestnesis if he is satisfied with Kelowna Rockets team performance,
he said yes and that every game they are getting better and better.
When it came to the game against the Vancouver Giants he said luck was
not on their side since luck seems to be in the strong team side so
that’s what made the difference. When asked what he thinks of his performance
this season so far and what he can improve, he said that he is not happy
with his play so far since he is not scoring as much as he can and wants
to, going on and saying 6 points in 10 games is not good for him. He
then went on and said that for the second game on a row he hit the goal
post so he is thinking now what he can do to change that. He also said
that he plans to do more and more practice and train harder to start
scoring as much as he wants to. The biggest difference between European
style hockey game and North American Style hockey game he said was that
the North America style has way more checks, hits and rebounds, while
the European is a faster and finesse style of hockey. When asked if
he has any contacts with local Latvian Community he said no since there
are no Latvians in Kelowna, but he does keeps in touch with a few Latvian
players that play in Ontario through the internet. When asked if there
is anything you want to say to Hokeja Vestnesis readers he said “Greetings
to all people, very good when you see Latvian people at the stadiums
and in specially with Latvian Jerseys on, and that it is much easier
for the guys that play in Toronto since there are way more Latvians
there”.
