Vancouver Giants played with intensity and passion the entire game and dominated the Kamloops Blazers. The turning point of the game came very early on in the first period when Garet Hunt hit the boards full speed while trying to make a body check and ended up with a broken femur and will miss the rest of the season. This lead the Vancouver Giants to play with intensity that at times that was the best play they had the entire season. The Blazers a team on paper at least equal to the Giants was outshoot, outscored and also outfought. Parts of the second period were a perfect example of full attack and scoring style that hockey can be when played properly. But at the same time parts of the game in the third period especially was a flash back to the 1970’s Philadelphia Flyers style of hockey that was especially visible when both teams fought together.

Vancouver Giants Frason scored the first goal in first period at 11:30 the assists went to Rabbit and McArdle. Vancouver Giants Frason scored the second goal of the game in the second period at 1:43 the assists went to McArdle and Blum. Vancouver Giants Machalek scored the third goal of the game in the second period at 4:15 the assists went to Kraus and Festerling. Vancouver Giants McArdle scored the fourth goal of the game in the second period at 1:43 the assists went to Kraus. Kamloops Blazers Shattock scored the fifth goal of the game in the second period at 16:13 the assists went to Bender and Nixon. Vancouver Giants Lucic scored the final goal of the game in the second period at 17:29 and the assists went to Repik and Rabbit.

After the game during the post game interview Kamloops Blazers General Manager / Head Coach Dean Clark said that fighting is part of the game especially since is a good rivalry between Kamloops and Vancouver since they have played 6 games this season already. The turning points of the game Dean Clark said were Vancouver getting early in the game first goal and then at the start of the second period getting their second goal on the 5 on 3 power play. Dean Clark went on to say as well that in the first 2 periods Vancouver wanted more to win the game then they did, Vancouver worked hard for it and Kamloops just didn’t respond hard enough.

Vancouver Giants Head Coach Don Hay in the post game interview said that with Hunt going down in the game it was a big emotional push for his guys, since he is a well liked guy who means a lot to the hockey team and the guys wanted to play really well for him. Don Hay went on to say that the second period was the turning point and was especially happy that the team stuck up for each other.
