7th Win in
a Row for Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver Canucks got their 7th Win
in a row during a lackluster performance by Vancouver
Canucks. It was a game though that finally saw Marcus
Naslund scores his 1st goal in the last 17 games.
Florida Panthers for the most part of the game outshoot
Vancouver Canucks and while they did score 2 easy
goals from some distance away the crease during the
2nd period, they didn’t manage to beat Roberto Luongo
in overtime where they outshoot Vancouver 6 to 1.
Florida Panthers just doesn’t seem to be able to break
away from the no wins in overtime record this season
and now have 9 straight losses in overtime including
6 shootouts. The total opposite can be said about
the Vancouver Canucks when it comes to overtime games
since they have 10 wins and only 1 loss in overtime
including shootouts. First goal was scored by Vancouver
Canucks player Trevor Linden in the first period at
19:49 with the assists going to Henrik Sedin and Kevin
Bieksa. Second goal of the game was scored by Florida
Panthers player Ville Peltonen in the second period
at 4:50 with the assist going to Stephen Weiss. The
third goal of the game was scored by Florida Panthers
player Mike Van Ryn in the third period at 1:56 with
the assists going to Olli Jokinen and Nathan Horton.
The fourth goal of the game was scored by Vancouver
Canucks player Marcus Naslund in the third period
at 3:59 with the assist going to Daniel Sedin. The
fifth goal of the game was scored by Vancouver Canucks
player Brendan Morrison in the third period at 10:22
with the assists going to Marcus Naslund and Sami
Salo. The sixth and last goal of the game was scored
by Florida Panthers player Gregory Campbell in the
third period at 11:35 with the assist going to Ville
Peltonen. The first goal in the shootout came from
Ryan Kesler of Vancouver Canucks which was the second
Canucks shooter he faked a forehand then decked Ed
Belfour on the glove side. Florida Panthers answered
right back though when Steve Montador scored through
a forehand dike. This set the stage for Vancouver’s
Josh Green the unsung hero of the game to take his
penalty shoot, with which he beat Ed Belfour through
a excellent placed wrist shoot. At the end of the
shoot Roberto Luongo was very tired and it showed
when he didn’t jump up or even got up after he stoped
Joseph Stumpel shot that gived Vancouver the shootout
win, all he could do was to raise one arm towards
the sky while seating down on the ice. After the game
during the post game interviews Olli Jokinen of Florida
Panthers said “That the loss was a tough loss since
they had couple of good chances to put Vancouver away.
When asked about what he thinks of Tod Bertuzzi he
said that Bertuzzi is a great player that will help
a lot the team when he will come back from the injury
in the second half of the season“. During Florida
Panthers Head Coach Jaques Martin media conference
he said they had couple of bad breaks that Vancouver
capitalized on it to put the game away. Though he
said it was a tough loss since Florida out checked
and out shoot Vancouver. He also that with 5 out of
the next 7 games at home they will be very crucial
to make up some points ground.” When Roberto Luongo
of Vancouver Canucks was asked what made the difference
in the game shootout? He said he knew a number of
the Florida players and that was the difference. When
asked why he thinks Florida is having a hard time
to win either in overtime or shootouts this season?
He said that they need to score more goals”.
